The merger of two Market Harborough secondary schools – the Robert Smyth Academy and the Welland Park Academy – has recently been scrapped by the local government in favour of enlarging the two schools.

This offers students in Market Harborough more choice with the 2 school offering a full post primary school curriculum.

Previously Market Harborough’s children split the entirety of their compulsory secondary education progressing from Welland Park Academy (11-14 years) to Robert Smyth Academy (14-18 years).

Newly appointed RSA principal Sue Jones was delighted to hear of this outcome, commenting that it will “give local parents a choice of where to educate their children” allowing students, as of the schools expansion in 2016, to “benefit from continuity in their education, without the need to change schools at age 14.”
