Hundreds of jobs could be created from a planned extension to the Airfield Business Park, set to be built behind the existing Harborough Innovation Centre.

Airfield Business Park is a 20 acre business park located on the northern outskirts of Market Harborough. The current £4.2 million Innovation Centre is home to around 100 small businesses, and has 8,000 square metres of separate office and industrial units.

Planning permission to extend the business park had lapsed due to the recession. William Davis Ltd have now, however, submitted plans for 30,000 square metres of additional employment space- split equally between new offices, factories and warehouses.

Naylors director, William Naylor says “Airfield Business Park is an excellent site and has always been earmarked for development. The expansion of the business park will help to lower Market Harborough’s unemployment rates even further and boost the local economy.”

Harborough District Council leader, Blake Pain, supports the claims suggesting that “it is important that we keep Harborough firms in the Harborough district. This site will provide grow-out space for these firms.”

Prospective jobs figures are hard to predict for the expansion. The design submitted to Harborough District Council however shows 700 vehicle spaces at the site.
