Work on the development of St Luke’s Hospital in Market Harborough has reached the topping out stage – where the building reaches its highest point.
Morgan Sindall was appointed last year to build the new health facility after 28 years of campaigning from local people was met with a £7.8 million investment.
The growth of the hospital will provide it facilities to provide a mixture of outpatient services with primary care including general practice and diagnostics including an x-ray department, mental health services, physiotherapy and occupational therapy. The NHS also announced that there will be a number of specialist services available.
It is expected that the Market Harborough District Hospital on Coventry Road will be closed following the large development to the St Luke’s site.
William Naylor, managing director at Naylors, commented “A lot of local people have been waiting for this moment for a long time. It’s great to now see the structure of the new facilities now in place – the scale of the building is significant. Residents of Market Harborough and surrounding areas are now one step closer to having a new, state of the art healthcare facilities in the town.”
The building work is on course to be completed for later this year or in early 2017.
Investment has also recently been put forward to improve the Market Harborough train station. These two separate developments showcase the growing appeal of the area.
