According to a local data survey, Naylors Estate Agents, based on The Square, has the highest footfall in Market Harborough.

The 12-month study, which began in August, collects data by totalling the number of Wi-Fi signals that are transmitted from people’s smartphones as they pass by. There is an element of calibration to take account of the fact that not everyone has a Smartphone.

The survey also measures data from shops at other locations in the town. So far, the figures show that Naylors’ location attracts the highest footfall by some way, with around 450 people passing by the agency in an hour at times of peak footfall.  During a typical Saturday, just under 3,000 people are likely to walk past the agency, compared to an average of 1,200 at locations in Church Street and Adam and Eve Street.

William Naylor, owner of Naylors Estate Agents commented “We have always felt that The Square is the commercial and retail heart of the town and so it is great to have this confirmed by this latest data,”

“As an estate agent, it’s important to have a high profile on the street as well as online, so we were delighted with the figures. It’s also important that such a prime site does not become overwhelmed by national chains and we are proud to fly the flag for the town’s many independent traders.”

Peak Harborough High Street hours

The survey shows that the number of people walking around the town centre peaks at around 1pm on Saturday at all locations. Footfall also rose to around 38,000 during the school summer holiday period and now averages around 30-35 thousand per week.

The survey is being carried out by The Local Data Company which publishes the data monthly. Each participating organisation installs a footfall device in their shop window which picks up the Wi-Fi signal as people walk by.
