After building work began in November 2015, the new hospital that cost £7.5 million has now been completed.

The St Luke’s Treatment Centre on Leicester Road, Market Harborough, will open to patients at the beginning of March. The new hospital will be home to a variety of medical services which were previously located at several sites around the town, including Harborough District Hospital and the Welland Unit.

Tim Sacks, Chief Operating Officer for East Leicestershire and Rutland Clinical Commissioning Group said: “The new state-of-the-art building will deliver joined up services from under one roof. We are committed to meeting the needs of local people and are sure that this new facility will be much welcomed by the people of Market Harborough and surrounding area.”

Developing services with population

As both housing and population numbers grow, local amenities and services need to be updated, expanded or adjusted to match the higher volume of residents in the area. It is for this reason that the new hospital has been built.

The up-to-date healthcare practice will bring together different clinical services under one roof, enabling Harborough residents to be treated locally rather than travelling to other surrounding cities and towns.

Market Harborough population

The last UK census in 2011 showed that the population of Market Harborough had increased 14.1 per cent on ten years previous to reach 21,894. It also showed an 11.5 per cent across the district over the same period.

Thanks to a significant number of residential and business developments, including the Harborough Business Park, the population of the town has grown rapidly since 2011 too. The next census is expected to show another large increase in the area’s population.

The constant developments serve to showcase the growing appeal of the Market Harborough area. If you’re interested in moving to the Harborough area and experiencing its growth, call Naylors Estate Agents today on 01858 450020 so we can help you find your dream property.
