Council officers’ this week have suggested approval for a new 230-home estate in Market Harborough.

Harborough District Council’s Planning Committee are ultimately responsible for the authorisation and will make a decision next Tuesday. The Committee do however usually follow officers’ advice.

CJC Developments and Pilkington Trust plans for the Farndon Fields development serve to emphasise the attraction that Market Harborough provides. Demand for property in the area is proving to be ever increasing.

The new Market Harborough houses are proposed to be accessible through the two current Closes- Measham Close and Charley Close. The scheme will involve creating a new lagoon in the north-west corner of the site to accommodate the otters in the current lagoon- a badger sett is also planned to be created.

The officers’ report say the scheme “would deliver a number of homes on a site which is adjacent to a sustainable settlement.” The report adds that the 230 new houses would “make a significant contribution to the council’s five year housing land supply.”
